Switching to a new smartphone is boring. You need to transfer your data from the old phone to the new one. Companies provide built-in tools to achieve this goal. However, they mostly only work well when users switch between phones of the same brand. To mitigate this problem, 3 of China’s top OEMs came together to create a new solution.

Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo reunited. This is the second major collaboration after the peer-to-peer data alliance. With this new partnership, users can effectively transfer data from their old smartphones to new phones from any of these three brands.

Previously, users could only transfer photos and contacts between devices from these brands. But they can now also share third-party apps and data. So the experience is now almost like transferring data between phones of the same brand. At this time, we are not sure if this feature will be available in global markets. As peer-to-peer transmission is available outside of mainland China, an improved data porting feature may also be available in the near future.

Also, almost all brands have joined the alliance since its inception in 2019, including Samsung (exclusive to China). Therefore, we can expect other brands to collaborate on a new and better transit system. Internationally, Google allows users to move data between different brands. But it’s not perfect. The search giant also offers the “Share Soon” feature for file transfer.
