WhatsApp gives its Windows app a new look. The revised desktop client is available through the Microsoft Store. The focus is on improving (video calling) features to make the desktop app a more equal alternative to calling via WhatsApp.
For this, WhatsApp raises the limit on the number of participants to eight people in a video call, to 32 people if you only make calls with audio. WhatsApp wants to increase this even further in the future. Also, the desktop app should now load much faster than before.
WhatsApp is fully committed to providing a better chatting experience on devices other than smartphones. The messaging app pipeline also includes a native app for macOS, optimized for the Apple chip architecture. This has been available in preview since January, although there is still no prospect of a stable launch. WhatsApp is also working on a version adapted to Android devices with larger screens such as foldables and tablets.
The messaging app has introduced new functionalities in recent months. Earlier this week, it announced new group management options. These follow the announcement of a full newsletter module and a tool that converts audio messages to text. At the beginning of the year there was a rumor that WhatsApp was working on a function for sending photos in the original resolution, but this has not been said for the time being.
