India’s most powerful rocket has launched the last set of 36 satellites for the first-generation Internet constellation OneWeb.

This was reported by Space.com, Ukrinform reports.

The launch vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) was launched from India’s Satish Dhawan Space Center on Sunday. It carried 36 OneWeb broadband satellites, which the rocket launched into low Earth orbit (LEO) in about 90 minutes.

It was the 18th and final mission dedicated to establishing the first-generation broadband OneWeb satellite constellation in LEO, which currently consists of 582 satellites.

Most of OneWeb’s previous 17 launches were carried out by Russian-made Soyuz rockets operated by the French company Arianespace.

But Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 ended that partnership, forcing OneWeb to find new companies for its satellites.

As a result, the British company agreed with SpaceX and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research and Development Organization (ISRO).
