Intel Says Goodbye to 5G and LTE PC Business

American technology giant Intel is a prominent player in various fields, including 5G and LTE technologies. However, recent news shows that Intel will put an end to its efforts in these areas. Details are here…

A few days ago, multiple sources reported that Intel will soon stop working on 5G modems and will stop researching LTE modems by 2025. The company’s latest statements confirm this intention. In a statement to More than Moore, the tech giant confirmed the rumors and explained the reason behind the decision, saying: “We have made the difficult decision to exit the LTE and 5G WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) business and we continue to prioritize our investments. Our IDM 2.0 strategy.”

IDM 2.0 technology was announced in 2021. With this expansion strategy, the company has endeavored to develop and manufacture the best products. With this approach, Intel has expressed its intention to be a leader in process, product, supply and cost. Three years ago, Intel sold its 5G modem business to Apple for $1 billion. The company then partnered with MediaTek to start producing 5G modems for computers. The first products took their place on the shelves in 2021.

However, recent news suggests that the lifespan of these products may not be very long. For 4G, Intel has partnered with Fibocom for 4G LTE modems. Recent statements indicate that the company plans to hand over its 4G and 5G business to these two companies. Intel is expected to exit the 5G market by July and exit the entire WWAN market by 2025.
