Market development creates price DDR4 and DDR5 memories keep droppingand in a very prominent way. This is due, as you might have imagined, to very low demand and high inventory levels, a situation that will not change in the short to medium term and which creates a complicated picture for producers but a positive one for consumers.
During the first quarter of this year, the price of DDR4 and DDR5 memory fell by up to 20%, and according to a new prediction published by TrendForce it will fall again in the second quarter of this year. In order to better understand the situation, we will look at the data provided by the company, which can be seen in the attached table.
The data in the boxes on the left reflect the decline forecast for first quarter of 2023, and in those on the right we can see the same prediction but for second quarter of 2023. The expected decline was more pronounced in the server memory sector, but as we can see, there were also significant declines at other levels, particularly in the graphics memory and general consumer sectors.
RAM pricing is expected for the second quarter DDR4 drop between 8% and 13%while memory DDR5 will drop by 10% to 15%. In both cases we are referring to the PC sector where we have a general average price drop of between 10% and 15%. If we look at memory for servers, we find a much more pronounced drop forecast, which could reach 18% in the case of DDR4 and 20% in the case of DDR5, with an average drop between 13% and 18% uniting the previous values.
In other sectors, a significant decrease in memory prices is also expected. In the case of VRAM, or graphics memory, there will be a drop between 10% and 15%, the same level of decline applies to mobile memory and consumer memory. On average, the price of memory in general is expected to decrease, including all the types we mentioned between 10% and 15% in the second quarter of 2023.
If we put this in context with the current quarter, we can conclude that the expected decline they will be less marked, as it was estimated to fall by approximately 20% in the first quarter. Of course, these drops should make RAM cheaper and should have a positive impact on the price of all these products that use this component, including everything from memory packs to smartphones and graphics cards.
