Lenovo introduces new consumer laptops with the update to its Yoga lineup. Multimedia creation is at the heart of the new portfolio.
Lenovo refreshes its Yoga series. Notebooks that are primarily intended for consumers and are therefore not necessarily designed for long or intensive use in a business context live under the Yoga label. Nevertheless, Lenovo is targeting creative people with this update: Photo and video editing, at home and on the go, are among the options.
Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i
The range is led by the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i. Lenovo is positioning this device as a laptop tailored for prosumers. The device is available in both 14.5-inch and 16-inch formats. The 16-inch version (top image) has a numeric keypad. In both cases, Lenovo opts for miniLED technology, which in theory should deliver a clear and colorful image. The specifications seem to support this: Lenovo speaks of 100% coverage in the DCI-P3 and sRGB spectrum and a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits. This makes it possible in principle to work in direct sunlight.
The Yopga Pro 9i is equipped with 13th generation Intel Core processors and can be configured with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070. As already mentioned, such GPUs are fully suitable for professional use in combination with Nvidia Studio drivers. You can configure the RAM memory up to 64 GB LPDDR5X.
Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i – 14.5 inch
In terms of connections, Lenovo provides a USB-C port that supports both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Thunderbolt 4. Two USB-A ports are available as well as HDMI 2.1. The small version has a starting weight of 1.65 kg (with LCD instead of mini-LED), the large version is 2 kg. Given the internal specs, we don’t think that’s wrong.
Yoga Pro 7 and 7i
The line-up also consists of a Yoga Pro 7 and a Yoga Pro 7i. The Pro 7i comes with Intel’s thirteenth-gen Core i5 or Core i7, up to an Nvidia GeForce 4050 and 32GB of RAM. The Yoge Pro 7 is essentially the same device but built around AMD Ryzen processors. You have the choice between Zen 4-based and older Zen 3 CPUs, each from the somewhat confusing MD Ryzen 7000 portfolio.
Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i
Both laptops have a screen diagonal of 14.5 inches. For some reason, Lenovo makes the AMD laptop less slim and light: the thing weighs 1.98 kg, while the Intel variant comes in at 1.49 kg. Both laptops come with HDMI, USB-A, and USB-C, but don’t support Thunderbolt. These devices also have 100% DCI-P3 coverage.
No Pro, more AMD
Digging deeper into the line-up, the Pro label disappears, leading us to believe we’ve really stepped into consumer territory. With the Yoga Slim 7, the emphasis is on the line. What we find particularly interesting about this device is that Lenovo has opted for AMD Ryzen processors without compromising on design. All too often we see AMD’s chips still end up in inferior packages compared to Intel variants. Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear which Ryzen chip it is.
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7
This AMD-based Yoga Slim 7 again has a 14.5-inch OLED screen with a 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut. The resolution is 2,944 x 1,840 pixels. You get a maximum of 21 GB of RAM. USB-A is absent, but Lenovo provides three USB Type-C ports, two of which support USB 4. Thunderbolt is not available. The notebook has an attractive starting weight of 1.35 kg.
Finally, we see a Yoga 7i and a Yoga 7 based on Intel and AMD chips, respectively. The devices are available in 14 inch and 16 inch sizes and are more or less entry-level models. You can opt for a maximum of 16 GB of RAM. For dessert, there’s the Yoga Slim 6: a 14-inch laptop that’s more or less the budget variant of the Yoga Slim 7.
price and availability
Lenovo shares European starting prices and availability for most models, with some variants like the 14.5-inch Yoga Pro 9i falling behind:
The Yoga Pro 9i (16 inches), 1,699 euros, available from May
The Yoga Slim 7 (14.5 inches), 1,499 euros, available from June
The Yoga Pro 7i (14.5 inches), 1,099 euros, available from April
The Yoga Pro 7 (14.5 inches), 1,099 euros, from June
The Yoga 7i, 999 euros, from April
The Yoga 7, 899, out April 2023
The Yoga Slim 6 (14 inches), 899 euros, from May
The top of the portfolio seems particularly interesting, especially for people who, for example, are (semi-)professionally involved in photography, film or 3D design on a part-time basis. For consistently professional work, we still recommend looking at purebred business models, as these tend to be more robust.
