HP is updating its mobile workstation portfolio with updates to the ZBook Firefly, ZBook Power, ZBook Studio, and ZBook Fury. It is particularly noticeable that the manufacturer is using AMD Ryzen processors for the first time, although the Intel range is also being retained.
2023 seems to be the year AMD really breaks through in the business laptop market. HP already relies heavily on the Intel competitor’s CPUs, although the range of office laptops is divided almost equally between the two processor manufacturers. At the Amplify event in Chicago, HP now announces that the mobile workstations from the ZBook portfolio will for the first time also receive optional internals from AMD.
The HP ZBook Firefly G10 is equipped with AMD processors. These are Ryzen Pro variants, although HP is not entirely clear which chips are involved. Only 14-inch variants are available with AMD Ryzen; if you want 16 inches, stay damned with Intel. In this case, you get access to the recently announced vPro functionality present in the thirteenth Core generation (Raptor Lake) CPUs.
You can configure the laptops with up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. If you want, you can opt for a DreamColor screen. The graphics performance comes from the integrated graphics capabilities of the CPUs. If you want to integrate an Nvidia RTX A500, you can do this in combination with an Intel chip. It’s not a big powerhouse.
The HP ZBook Power G10 is also available with chips from Intel and AMD. Again, you can opt for 64 GB of DDR5 RAM. Graphically, the ZBook Power lives up to its name compared to the Firefly. These computers are available with the latest version of Nvidia Adam generation-GPUs. You can configure an AMD ZBook with a maximum of one Nvidia RTX 2000. With Intel, an Nvidia RTX 3000 is possible.
AMD hasn’t made it into the HP ZBook Fury series yet. These laptops are based on Intel’s Raptor Lake HX processors and are configurable up to a Core i9. Performance is the keyword here. Graphically, the Fury can be configured with a Nvidia RTX 5000 (Ada Generation) at most. With the slimmer Studio, you’re limited to an RTX 4000, although you can also opt for a GeForce RTX 4080. The RAM options are also more extensive than with the Power or Firefly: The ZBook Fury G10 can be set to a maximum of 128 GB DDR5. The studio is limited to 64 GB.
These laptops also come with HP DreamColor screens. You can also opt for a touchscreen with Oled technology. All ZBooks are ISV certified.
All laptops in HP’s business range also come with HP Presence, including these ZBooks. This means that the devices are equipped with high-quality microphones, cameras and software to support video conferencing.
The HP ZBook Firefly G10 with Intel should be available now, priced at $1,769 for the most basic configuration. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the ZBook Firefly G10 A with AMD, although the devices still have to be on the shelves before the summer. The same applies to the ZBook Power G10 and G10 A, the ZBook Studio G10 and the ZBook Fury G10. HP has not yet communicated the prices of these devices. HP had previously renewed the desktops from its Z portfolio.
