Oi follows the plan for the development of broadband Internet access. With the sale of its mobile network completed, Oi is finalizing a plan to move its pay TV customer base to Sky. According to Teletime, the agreement was signed last Thursday (28).

In doing so, Oi provides for the “possible transfer of the entire base” of DTH pay TV to Sky, as well as “the use of the IPTV infrastructure of (…) Oi and the provision of Sky services in relation to this infrastructure with the distribution of revenue between Oi and Sky.”
According to the contract, Oi will help Sky with the fiber optic network. In return, the company takes over the satellite television customer base. Some 1.74 million subscribers, excluding Oi Livre customers, do not sign a contract. In addition, Sky also serves 80,000 IPTV customers using the Oi TV technical platform.
At the same time, Sky will have about 5.9 million subscribers against the current 4.1 million. It is worth remembering that the deal is still subject to approval from Cade, which will analyze aspects of competition.
It is important to note that the contract does not mention the cost of the negotiations, indicating that Sky should only assume the cost of programming Oi. Also because when it announced its withdrawal from the pay TV zone, the operator set the price at only 20 million reais.
Also in 2021, the operator’s CEO, Rodrigo Abreu, confirmed his goal of selling the pay TV zone. Even the company’s financial projections for 2022-2024 no longer include DTH revenue. “It still affects the numbers today, but in the future we will already remove it from the mix. We include other content including IPTV and Oi Play.“, – he said. The DTH block is included in the sale program of 34.6 billion reais.
