Ukrinform reported that the announcement was made during an event held at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston on Monday.
“The Artemis II crew consists of thousands of people working tirelessly to get us to the stars. This is their crew, this is our crew, humanity’s crew,” said Bill Nelson, director of the American agency.
The crew was announced as: Commander Reid Wiseman (USA), Pilot Victor Glover (USA), First Mission Specialist Christina Hammack Koch (USA), Second Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (Canada).
According to the NASA head, the entire team of the Artemis II project together ushers in a new era of research for the next generation of “star dreamers.”
The purpose of the flight of the expedition, which is expected to last about ten days, will be to test the life support systems of the Orion spacecraft, as well as the possibility of living and working in deep space.
As reported by Ukrinform, a new office of the “Moon to Mars” program was established last week at NASA headquarters in Washington to handle the agency’s research activities.
