More “Ultra” design than “Pro” design (and that’s good news)

motorola 2

When we went to see the Motorola Edge 40 first hand, the first thing we saw was its specs. The subject looked good, but personally I didn’t want to make any progress until I got it. When I already hold I thought it might be the Edge 40 Ultra.. But no, it was the Edge 40 Pro.

Not knowing if we’ll see an ‘Ultra’ this year, Motorola’s top-of-the-line flagship is the Edge 40 Pro and it does it this way: a first-class design in aesthetics and sensations. The rear glass offers a very nice matte texture.

motorola 3

The terminal is available in blue and black, many different colors, but these Don’t pull the footprints behind you. This is mainly due to the aforementioned matte texture they have. Of course, although it is enjoyable, we cannot ignore the fact that it makes people shudder. slight slippery feeling.

Perhaps this feeling that we are discussing also stems from the fact that we were before. a phone that’s lighter than other high-end phones, but doesn’t quite stick to that qualifier. At 200 grams (199 to be exact), it can’t be said to be as featherweight, but we must say that it’s nothing dramatic or particularly playing against the terminal.

Didn’t you want ‘Hertz’? well take 165

motorola 4

The good feelings you experience while holding the device in your hand are also transferred to the screen. Her good color calibration, resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate fears (for the better). It is probably not the best display terminal on the market, neither on paper nor in practice. But nothing bad can be blamed on our first impressions either.

This The fluidity of 165 Hz is particularly noticeable Although accustomed to 120 Hz panels, the jump to 144 Hz exactly seen on other Motorolas was not so noticeable, it was felt at 165. And why so much? Well, besides noticing the fluidity in navigating between the system and apps, it should offer a better experience in games that are quite demanding at the graphic level.

Good panel technology with good resolution, good refresh rate and good brightness. Although sloping…

The biggest disadvantage of the screen is that it is curved.. Ultimately, it’s a very personal matter, because there will be those who love this format and we think it’s extraordinary. In fact, it is interesting to provide a larger “infinity screen” feeling in the terminal. Of course, the fact that there is a certain fear of slipping in the grip is also largely to blame.

Returning to the positive points of the screen, we were able to test the brightness when the direct sun is shining About her. We haven’t had a particularly bad time, thanks to the 1,300-nits peak it outputs. It’s true that it’s a complicated case, but the panel has been kept so that the content on the screen can be seen without much effort.

With that chip and that RAM it rarely falls short in performance

neither more nor less than you choose to integrate the best Qualcomm chip todayThe Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Unfortunately our experience with the Motorola Edge 40 Pro hasn’t been long enough to draw good conclusions about performance, but it doesn’t look like it will be an issue. Also 12 GB of RAM of type LPDDR5X is added, not junk data.

motorola 5

We cannot provide data from our experience on autonomy either. It’s not the highest-capacity cell phone on the market, and it actually stays at 4,600mAh, which is a bit off the 5,000mAh standard popular in the market. But, offers good balance for fast battery charging With power up to 125 W and power adapter included in the box. Less striking is the 5W wireless charging, but it’s better to have it than not to have it. As he said, it gives few stones.

The software is very Motorola and also very Google. It still has My UX to be able to add some Motorola features like a native app for gestures or sound. However, it is a layer very similar to stock Android, with very little difference compared to the Pixel. Also updated to Android 13.

Highly detailed selfies and the return of the telephoto lens to Motorola

Motorola 6

The biggest disadvantage of quality selfie cameras is that they take you in a resolution that is good enough to show even the pimples. While finally removing that somewhat hilarious and anecdotal aspect (not something an Instagram or TikTok filter can’t fix), it’s very interesting to see this Edge 40 Pro come with it. 60 megapixel front camera.

We could hardly tinker with that camera and those in the back. Although we join in to see that they also promise a lot. The 12-megapixel telephoto lens and 2x optical zoom don’t seem revolutionary, but it does mean bringing back a type of lens in the brand whose last base is the Motorola Edge 20 Pro. The telephoto lens also claims to improve portrait mode. more accurate determination of the cut.

Then we leave you A few examples of photos taken with the Motorola Edge 40 Pro the fact that it was taken automatically and in a very specific situation does not serve as proof of the weight of the lenses. However, the wide-angle camera is the first approach to check how the main camera, optical zoom, and digital zoom behave in that order.

The result: a sweet phone you’ll want to sink your teeth into more

This Motorola Edge 40 Pro left a very good taste in our mouths. Now alone We need to know if that flavor lasts for a long time or if it stays on the palate for only a few hours.. What we want to say without metaphor, when we aim high and analyze it, we will see how long this feeling is sustained.

motorola 7

Of course, we will eliminate more flaws from the terminal, but we will certainly also eliminate other strong points that we could not experience at first contact. Now, screen, software and camera aim to be the leading roles your terminal.
