iOS 17 will support iPhone X and iPhone 8/8 Plus

Apple’s iOS 17 operating system will be compatible with all iPhones that support iOS 16, a trusted source with people previously alleged to be at Apple, which contradicts yesterday’s rumors. On Tuesday, a separate source with a reputation for predicting the general release window of future Apple software updates suggested that iOS 17 will end support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, while iPadOS 17 will end support for 9.7. -inch and 12.9-inch iPads First generation Pro and fifth generation iPad.

However, in response to the claim that iOS 17 support has been discontinued for the above iPhone models, a respected leaker said otherwise, saying this is “absolutely untrue”. According to an anonymous whistleblower’s post on the MacRumors forum, any iPhone that supports iOS 16 will indeed support iOS 17, including any device with A11 chipsets (i.e. iPhone X and iPhone 8/8 Plus)..

This counterclaim comes from the same leak that hinted at the existence of Dynamic Island before it was officially launched on iPhone 14 Pro models last year. They also recently claimed that future iPhone 15 Pro models will use a new ultra-low-power chip that will keep the new solid-state volume, power and Action buttons working when the phone is turned off or the battery is low, and iOS will use this chip. 17 will include a new sensitivity setting for these buttons.

The source is said to be an “insider” on Apple’s development team who occasionally reveals hardware details of future iPhone models if the physical specs require software development to complement them.

If its latest claims are true, it’s not the first time Apple has kept the same list of compatible devices across major iOS releases. For example, iOS 15 is compatible with all devices running iOS 14, but some iOS 15 features are not available on older iPhones. In response, iOS 16 has ended support for some older devices, including the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, ‌iPhone‌ 6s Plus, iPod touch, and ‌iPhone‌ 7 and ‌iPhone‌ 7 Plus.

It’s also worth noting that yesterday’s rumors weren’t the first to suggest that iOS 17 could end support for the iPhone X and iPhone 8/8 Plus. Since these models are now five years old, the argument makes sense, this is a timeframe Apple used to cut software support for some older devices before. They’re also the only iPhones based on the A11 chip, which is vulnerable to Bootrom jailbreak that Apple can’t fix. However, it remains unclear whether Tuesday’s rumors were the result of pure guesswork along these lines. Unless the latest sources from our anonymous forum are confirmed by another source in the next two months, we will have to wait until June 5 to find out if this is true because Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 at WWDC on that date.
