Last year, AWS announced AWS Supply Chain at re:Invent. This cloud-based solution aims to bring transparency to the sometimes complex supply chains that businesses depend on. Covid-19, the war in Ukraine and the consequent economic slowdown have broken these chains and most importantly shown how vulnerable they are.
Supply Chain offers customers insight into the complexity of their own supply chain. In theory, this enables them to make informed decisions more quickly in order to avoid risks, reduce costs and improve the end customer experience. The heavy lifting is done by data and machine learning and done in the cloud based on data from various logistic systems.
AWS isn’t alone in believing that the cloud is the solution to supply chain problems. Microsoft shares this opinion and previously introduced the Microsoft Supply Chain Platform. Google’s version is called Supply Chain Twin. AWS Supply Chain has been in preview since late November. The solution is now available to everyone. Initially, you can work in three regions: two in the US and one with Europe (Frankfurt).
