The promise was simple: the shaman would help them multiply their money.
But once he was given the required amount, he gave them a drink as part of the ritual. There was indeed poison in this mixture. And the victims were buried in a shaman’s garden in Indonesia.
Indonesian police have arrested a shaman accused of poisoning at least 12 people after several bodies were found buried in the garden of his home in downtown Java, local media reported Thursday.
According to news portal Detik, Slamet Tohari, 45, allegedly buried his victims at his home in the village of Banjarnegara in Central Java and was charged with premeditated murder.
Hendry Julianto, chief of police at Banjarnegara, pointed out at a press conference that the defendant asked his victims to give him money and that he would multiply it if they drank the concoction he gave them, which turned out to be poisonous.
At each grave, police found a bottle of the drink that allegedly killed the victims, according to the Jakarta Globe.

Tohari was arrested this week after complaints from relatives of the victims who did not understand the disappearance of their loved ones and said the shaman’s house was the last place they went.
Authorities have now identified one of the victims and are trying to identify two others who have been reported missing, while seeking information on at least nine remaining bodies.
“After the examination, it was established that 6 of them were men and 3 were women. They were between 25 and 50 years old,” the official told local media.
According to the autopsy results, the victims were killed at different times, ranging from 6 to 24 months.
And although the cause of death was asphyxiation with poison, it is not yet known what kind of poison was used, and the results of a forensic medical examination are awaited.
Earlier, Indonesian police investigated the murder of a scammer who similarly promised his victims to increase their money and then poisoned them.
