Users may be asked to delete personal data from Google search

The change to Google’s privacy policy resulted in the company allowing users to remove personal information from search results. Users can now request that their phone numbers, email addresses, and other personal information (PIIs) be removed from search results.

Google’s new privacy policy aims to restrict the use of intruders who use sensitive information to harm unsuspecting people. Some malicious acts where this type of PII could be used include identity theft, harassment and possibly financial fraud. Previously, users could ask Google to remove their personal information from search results, although it was limited to ID numbers, bank details, photos of your signature, and medical records. The security section of the Google Play Store was another security measure brought by Google.

Thus, the current event expands the scope of privacy and personal data that can be hidden from the display of search results. In addition to physical addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers, users can also deny access to login credentials to increase protection against hackers. Users can access the Google Support page to start saving URLs containing their PII that should be prohibited from displaying search results. To do this, you can register up to 1,000 websites per user.

The removal triggers a Google review before satisfying the user’s request. If the request is accepted, Google will remove the URL containing the personal information from all search results. This process is expected to be robust so that it does not restrict publicly available information from search results. A statement from Michelle Chang, Google’s head of global search policy, highlighted the need for a dynamic policy to protect users. He stressed that Google will implement a strict mechanism before any request to delete any search results is met. Source
