Google CEO Promises Bard Update Soon

Sundar Pichai says the chatbot will be updated with a more functional language model

According to the magazine, Google is developing computer programs called large language models (LLMs) that understand and respond to commands in much the same way as a human. Pichai believes LLMs can help users improve the company’s browser search experience.

Pichai said users will be able to ask Google questions and interact with LLM during the search process. This announcement comes at a time when other big tech companies are investing in AI chatbots. OpenAI has released ChatGPT and its updated version GPT-4, and Microsoft has announced that it intends to include AI capabilities in its search engine.

Sectors show concern

While the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies is welcome in some industries, it also raises concerns. Tech experts such as Elon Musk have called for a six-month pause in the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems, arguing that it could pose a risk to society.

The US Congress has also raised concerns about the potential impact of AI. Rep. Ted Lew (R-Calif.), writing for The New York Times, stated, “As a member of Congress, I’m excited about how AI will continue to move society forward, but also concerned about being unregulated and unmanaged.”

Pichai doesn’t seem worried that chatbots could threaten Google’s search business, believing the opportunity space is larger than before. Google is also experimenting with new AI features in Gmail and other products, and Pichai expects closer collaboration between its two main AI divisions, Google Brain and DeepMind, to build larger and more powerful algorithms.
