The James Webb Space Telescope, located 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, announced that its currently operational scientific instruments have completed the alignment phase. PAN.

Its four powerful instruments, three image processors and a spectrometer have been successfully aligned with the main mirror (6.5 meters in diameter), which ended in early January, two weeks after the launch of the James Webb Telescope (JWST).

NASA announced in a statement that each instrument has reached its “operational temperature” and is ready for use.

While awaiting the arrival of the first scientific observations (boreal scheduled for summer), it has been confirmed that the instruments can “capture sharp and well-directed images” such as the Large Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy. The Milky Way satellite captured by the Mirim instrument.

“This first image is amazing because we already have the quality we’re looking for,” Pierre-Olivier Lagage, Mirim’s scientific manager at French scientific research organization CEA, said on Twitter.

“Everything is going perfectly and (…) I am confident that with JWST we will advance science by leaps and bounds,” he added.

“These test images show what can be achieved among people from different countries and continents when there is a bold scientific vision to explore the universe,” said Lee Feinberg, commander of the JWST telescope components on NASA’s Goddard Space Flight.
