The largest German manufacturer of military equipment and ammunition – the Rheinmetall concern – suffered another cyberattack.
This was reported by Ukrinform, Spiegel reported.
This time the company’s civilian affairs fell victim to hackers. The Dax Rheinmetall group has fallen victim to cybercriminals: Many Rheinmetall subsidiaries around the world have been affected, including Kolbenschmidt, where various systems malfunctioned on Friday. Production here is primarily intended for industrial customers and companies in the automotive sector.
“The failure will not affect the military business of the three divisions, Vehicle Systems, Weapons and Ordnance, and Electronic Solutions,” a spokesperson for the group said.
The extent of the damage is currently being determined. The Cologne prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case. It is currently unknown who was behind the attack.
Rheinmetall is, according to its own statements, one of the three largest manufacturers of military equipment and ammunition in the Western world. Rheinmetall’s market value is currently over 10 billion euros. The share price has more than doubled since the Russian invasion of Ukraine a year ago. In the civil areas, Rheinmetall is a supplier specifically for the automotive industry.
