Apple is preparing to launch the highly anticipated iPhone 15 series this fall this year, and with it, it is also stopping some of its older models. According to a report from Tom’s Guide, the iPhone 12 as well as the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 mini may be discontinued after the iPhone 15 is released.
The iPhone 12 discontinuation is a predictable move because Apple typically phases out older models after three years. As the device for mid-range iPhone seekers, the iPhone 13 will likely replace it. As with Apple’s Pro models, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may be discontinued after a year of sale.
The fate of the iPhone 14 is somewhat uncertain, but a price cut may be on the cards. Apple may also end the production of the iPhone 13 mini, following the model of stopping production of the iPhone 12 mini after two years of sales. Since the iPhone 14 Plus is Apple’s first Plus model, it is difficult to predict whether it will be discontinued.
The iPhone 15 lineup is expected to include four models – the basic iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and two Pro models – the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus can run on the A16 Bionic chipset, while the Pro models are likely to run on the latest A17 processor. All four devices will run on iOS 17, which is expected to be announced at the upcoming WWDC event.
As always, Apple’s new releases are eagerly awaited by tech enthusiasts, and the deprecation of older models makes room for new and improved devices. With the iPhone 15 series set to launch later this year, it will be interesting to see what new features and updates Apple has prepared for us.
