With the Ryzen 5000 embedded CPUs, network manufacturers can equip their devices with extra horsepower.
The Ryzen Embedded series offers network equipment manufacturers additional options to provide more computing power in their devices and functionalities, for example in NAS devices and firewalls. The new Ryzen 5000 Embedded is based on Zen 3 and offers an interesting balance of performance, reliability and energy efficiency.
The chips have a TDP between 65 watts and 105 watts and can be configured for up to 16 CPU cores. The AM4 socket supports up to DDR4-3200 and up to 24 PCIe Gen 4 lanes, expandable to 36 lanes in combination with an AMD X570 chipset. Unlike the traditional Ryzen chips for desktops and laptops, there is no integrated GPU on the chip. Manufacturers can expect the chips to be available for future devices for five years.
AMD is also targeting the enterprise market with the Ryzen 5000 embedded chips and supports numerous RAS functions (reliability, availability and serviceability). Here are the four chips available to manufacturers:
