After a six-day trial in Marshall, Texas, USA, Samsung was fined $303 million for infringing several patents related to Netlist’s semiconductor memory chips. Netlist alleged that Samsung Electronics deliberately infringed on its memory chip patents, resulting in a jury ruling against the tech giant.
Netlist Inc. claimed that Samsung Electronics copied its memory module technology and used it in its memory chips used in cloud computing servers when the companies were working together on another project. As a result, the Californian company sued the South Korean tech giant and demanded a $404 million fine in damages.
According to Netlist, the technology used by Samsung in its memory chips infringes several of its patents, including patents related to RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules. The company also stated that Samsung knew it was using patented technology without permission, and that the use of those patents caused significant damage to Netlist.

In addition to Samsung, Netlist is also involved in other patent disputes with companies such as Google and SK Hynix in US and German courts. Netlist claimed that these companies infringed their patents related to RDIMM and LRDIMM memory technology.
Samsung Defends as Netlist Stock Rises
In response, Samsung even claimed that the patents that Netlist would have filed are invalid. It is because of this that the technology created by the South Korean company ended up working differently, which in theory refuted the arguments proposed by Netlist. Unfortunately for the manufacturer, the jury ruled against Samsung.
Shortly after the outcome of the process became widely publicized, Netlist saw the stock rise significantly. That’s because they surged 21% last Friday, showing a strong valuation. Now, for example, the company’s shares are valued at $4. This is the highest price recorded since last month.
