Fedorov: Ukraine should gain experience in artificial intelligence

Ukraine is considering the option of creating a community of people with knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) around the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this could be our competitive advantage.

Deputy Prime Minister for Innovations, Education, Science and Technology Development – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov highlighted this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“The possibilities to regulate AI are now being evaluated. It is clear that over time appropriate legal frameworks will be created and new interactions will emerge between different companies. Someone will start using AI for criminal purposes, but we have to be experienced in this direction and use it for the good of the country. This could be our competitive advantage,” he said.

According to Fedorov, Ukraine can be a leader, although at one time it skipped several steps in technological development.

“We can now be the first. We are exploring safe ways to use AI – that’s a priority for us,” the deputy prime minister said.

According to Fedorov, there are already many companies in Ukraine that use artificial intelligence to improve their own work. Therefore, the option of creating a community of people who know Artificial Intelligence and understand the working principles of the Digital Ministry is being considered.

“There are many aspects in which it can be used in Ukraine. For example, to structure information or analyze Ukrainian legislation. This will help the government to save significant funds. Now we are moving towards the European Union. Thousands of laws need to be changed. To analyze them, many people With the help of artificial intelligence, it is possible to do this much faster and automate the work, thanks to a clear algorithm of its work”, – summed up the head of the Ministry of Digital.

As reported, the European Union is launching the “Digital Transformation for Ukraine” (DT4UA) project, for which it has allocated 17.4 million euros. Funds will be directed in 4 directions: development of digital services and implementation of “Action”; improving data exchange between registries and government agencies; Developing an electronic identity infrastructure in line with the eIDAS regulation and an electronic management system that will allow the transparent evaluation of criminal cases.
