Microsoft is streamlining all Microsoft 365 application domains to make life easier for IT teams and users.
In the coming months, Microsoft will be working on a single shared domain for all Microsoft 365 Apps. Under “cloud.microsoft” they want to optimize access to all Office apps. Today that is anything but the case. Below, Microsoft lists in a word cloud which are most commonly used and how many there actually are:
From now on, everything should appear much more clearly in the address bar. Each URL will soon consist of the app’s name followed by “cloud.microsoft”.
This is much more user-friendly for end users as it limits the number of login notifications. This makes it easier to switch between apps. IT teams, on the other hand, will be glad they no longer have to grapple with a complex list approval lists create a safe environment within the organization.
Microsoft also likes to make a marketing story out of the fact that the universal domain name provides tight integration between all the different applications. Developers can optimize their apps to switch between services more seamlessly.
time of rollout
New products will initially be rolled out on the new domain. Existing services will be reviewed later this year. According to Microsoft, in most cases no further action is required from companies and they can continue using Microsoft 365 seamlessly. Incidentally, IT teams are noticing that cloud.microsoft is already automatically added to theirs allow list experience no interruption of the transition.
Before Microsoft changes an existing domain, all users will be notified at least 30 days in advance. Where additional adjustments are required within organizations, the software giant offers additional time. Microsoft also offers long-term redirects to keep old bookmarks, hyperlinks, and connections working.
