Almost 1 in 4 Windows computers run Windows 11

Windows 11 continues to grow strongly and continues the trends of the last few months. Windows 7 remains stable.

In a new report from Statcounter, we see that the number of Windows 11 machines will have risen sharply in 2023. At the end of last year, 16.97 percent of all Windows computers were still running Windows 11. Today it is 23.01 percent.

Windows 10 is doing well again. After a declining trend through 2022, the operating system experienced a strong upward trend with the final end of Windows 7’s extended (paid) support period in early 2023. In one month, Windows 10’s market share rose to 73.31 percent, an increase of almost five percentage points. During the same period, Windows 7 suffered a significant drop of four percentage points to 5.34 percent.

Worldwide Numbers – Statcounter

The current trend now shows that Windows 7 remains stable at this percentage. Windows 10 then falls again in favor of Windows 11. With Microsoft announcing that Windows 10 will no longer be supported from 2025, it seems logical to us that Windows 11 should continue the upward trend.

On the other hand, Microsoft may be working on Windows 12. Previously, the software giant said that Windows 11 would be the last version, but the pressure from PC manufacturers to sell more systems with a new Windows version for a certain period of time is too great. Fragmentation can occur again and Microsoft can start all over again.

Belgian Numbers – Statcounter

If we look at the local numbers in Belgium, we noticed that we made a massive switch to Windows 10 last month. A strange trend compared to the global number that we can’t really explain. Let’s wait and see what the next quarter brings.
