“The official opening of Karapınar Solar Power Plant (GES), one of the largest solar power plants in Europe and the world’s largest, will be held today,” the newspaper said.
The solar power plant, which is the size of 2,800 football fields, will meet the electricity needs of 2 million people and its installation started in January 2020.
When the new power plant reaches full capacity, it will increase its solar energy production share in Turkey by 20 percent. According to preliminary calculations, the station should meet 1% of Turkey’s annual electricity consumption needs.
The power plant, which has 3.3 million solar panels, went into operation last month.
The power plant has a capacity of 1.35 GW and prevents the emission of 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide.
As reported by Ukrinform, in April this year Ukraine and Germany signed a statement on the expansion of the energy partnership for the “green” restoration and reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy industry.
