Google announced the launch Chrome 113, a new version of your web browser, which in turn opens a monthly ban when it comes to updates. This is because it is only the first browser based on Chromium to present its update, and according to the usual rule, everything indicates that, with exceptions, it will be one of the most boring in terms of news.

With exceptions, because although Chrome is not one of the most daring browsers when it comes to introducing new features, deep down it is a pioneer of the “Chromium tribe”, as it was also shown on this occasion, it applied to itself a completely new edge technology that will later be adopted by the rest of the derivatives. The same goes for fixes and optimizations implemented in Chromium.

So Chrome 113 releases a new WebGPU API enabled by default that, as its name suggests, revolves around graphical browser support. Specifically, WebGPU allows web applications and games to make better use of the device’s graphics hardware. More specifically, WebGPU will be the foundation upon which improvements to graphics support will be supported on the web, and by extension, in all web browsers including Firefox, as it is a W3C standard specification.

However, this first implementation still has work to do and in this regard Google continues to develop various components such as WebCodecs or others that have a long way to go before reaching the browser. In short, Chrome is getting ready for a deep overhaul when it comes to 3D graphics capabilities and performance and the first loser of this change is WebGPU, a new generation replacement for the old WebGL.

In addition to this basic change, which no one will notice yet, Chrome 113 includes other things, although they are also internal innovations that attract little attention, but are important for what they mean: better CPU performance coding with AV1, improvements to the CSS element support and as always a few security patches to feed the entire Chromium family of browsers.

Chrome 113 introduces a total of 9 features and 15 fixes, and only for the PC version of the browser (Linux, Mac, Windows).s
