Documents seen by The Wall Street Journal show that Google plans to make future search results more personal, bite-sized and visually appealing.
By combining artificial intelligence with what is by far the most popular search engine in the world, Google is looking into the – near – future. This addition should provide more personal search results, with a stronger focus on the visual and geared more towards a younger audience.
timing is not random
It’s no surprise that these changes are being implemented this year; For the first time in years, the decades-long dominance of the search engine Google is being threatened by other players. For example, there are some AI startups that want a piece of the pie. But the biggest name is Microsoft, no longer a startup. Microsoft is now adding artificial intelligence to the results of its own Bing. This was made possible by working with and investing in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.
This is changing
According to documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal, there will soon be a significant shift in how Google’s search results are presented. No longer just the typical “blue links” you see when you search, but more short videos and social media. There is even talk of incorporating more human voice to support content creators in the way that has mainly been the case for websites so far.
Another important update that artificial intelligence will help with is answers to questions asked in the search engine, to which the traditional suggested sites do not give a really decent answer. For example, AI will soon be asking follow-up questions, and the suggestions will therefore include more visuals and video (like TikTok). They want to help more comprehensively if no clear answer can be given to the first question, according to Google employees in the leaked documents.
Website administrators and owners don’t need to worry about these changes; Source links are still an (important) part of search results.
If
Google is now expected to unveil these changes, or at least some of them, at its annual I/O developer conference. It takes place over two days in the city of Mountain View, California. That’s not entirely coincidental where the headquarters have been for a while.
In addition to the minor changes to the search engine, it can also be assumed that Magi will be a guest at the I/O conference. This is not a keynote speaker, but Google’s latest AI project. And probably also part of the above updates. According to a New York Times report, Magi was extensively tested before the conference and this system will provide the more personalized search results.
It is not known if Magi has any connection to Google Bard besides the owner, but hopefully the presentation will go better for Google than the latter. The AI chatbot answered a question incorrectly during the launch demonstration. Undoubtedly something Google won’t let happen a second time…
