Twitter fixed an issue with Circles exposing your private posts

Let me remind you briefly: the social network recently offered the ability to post tweets only for a certain circle of people of your choice (similar to the “close friends” function in Instagram). In April, users started noticing tweets from thousands of people who didn’t add themselves in their recommendation streams, or even posts from people they never followed. Considering that personal and even private information is often published for the closest followers, this error can have serious consequences.

The company now claims that the issue was “immediately resolved”.

In April 2023, a security breach allowed users outside of your Twitter Circle to see only Tweets you’ve posted to the Circle. Our security team noticed the issue and immediately fixed it, making these tweets unusable outside of the Circle.
– It was said in the e-mail sent to the users who also reached Channel 24.

The company apologized and added that it was conducting a “extensive investigation” to determine the cause of the security breach and had already resolved the issue: “We are very sorry that this has happened. We are very serious about protecting your privacy and we are sorry to hear about this incident. You do not need to do anything to fix this issue.”

Twitter has faced an increasing number of technical issues since Elon Musk took over the company in October. The billionaire cut the company’s workforce by at least 60 percent and laid off most of its tech teams. During this time, Twitter has experienced numerous interruptions and confusion with the introduction and removal of new features. The company also no longer has a communications department, so journalists can’t reach out for comment: at Elon Musk’s orders, all messages are now automatically sent an obscene emoji.
