WhatsApp announced the opening of a beta version of its pro app Wear OSthe version of the Android operating system it is targeting wearable devices and this is mainly found in supposedly smart watches. It’s important to note that at this point, at least, it’s not officially a product for everyday use, but those interested can try it out and report bugs and other details to the developer.
WhatsApp beta pro wearable devices based on Android technology available from Wear OS 3, which can be found in this or a later version on devices like the Galaxy Watch 5, Pixel Watch, and more. The app offers several features available in mobile reports, including viewing recent contacts and conversations, and allows you to send messages in both text and voice formats.
Note that this is necessary to access the Wear OS app have WhatsApp beta installed on your phone, specifically version 2.23.10.10+ on both fronts. After installing the build targeting wearable devices that work with Google technology and activate it, the user will be shown an eight-digit alphanumeric code that he will have to enter on his mobile. This will of course enable the connection of both devices.
After logging in to wearable, on this device you will see a list of recent conversations next to Settings and an option to “Open on phone”, which needs no explanation. Clicking on any conversation, whether individual or group, will reveal the sent messages, images and other typical elements in this type of application.
At the end of each interview it is possible to send a voice message or in text format with the system’s virtual keyboard. As expected, the user can see and listen to messages other participants in the conversation. The application is also able to display the number of unread messages.
As we can see, WhatsApp for Wear OS comes largely as expected from an app, especially with regards to minimizing smartphone usage. On the other hand, we will see if this inclusion serves to boost a sector that exists but may not be the mass success that some expected.
