Google unveiled the Pixel Tablet at the main conference of its annual Google I/O developer event. Advance a year ago by the same company and after several leaks that even included an Amazon Japan listing, there were no surprises: The tablet is what we expected.
Google has long been expected to respond to Apple’s dominance with iPads, except that low-end and entry-level tablets are completely occupied by Android models. The Pixel Tablet isn’t just another model and may encourage more of its partners to raise the bar and compete with Apple.
The Google tablet is based on an LCD screen 11 inches with native resolution 2560 x 1600 pixels. With a pixel density of 276 PPI and an aspect ratio of 16:10, it is a capacitive multi-touch compatible with fingers and a stylus according to the USI 2.0 standard.
Google has been rumored to be betting on its self-developed Tensor G2 chipset for its tablet, and along with the Titan M2 co-processor are the engines of the device. It has 8 GB of LPDDR5 memory and storage options of 128 and 256 GB.
In terms of connectivity, it supports the latest wireless standards Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. It also has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port for data and charging for a good 27Wh battery. For the camera system, Google bets on the same 8MP sensor for the back and front of video conferences. Its audio system is powered by 4 speakers and 3 microphones and has a fingerprint sensor on the power button.
An interesting detail that we already talked about is that the Pixel Tablet is not just a tablet because it can perform functions smart home devices.
For this, it is connected to the expansion base. In this way, the tablet becomes a Nest Hub-like device.
It will be available in three color versions And on the software front, we don’t know if Google will install that rumored 64-bit version of Android 13. The benefits of stopping 32-bit app support include that it would reduce the codebase needed for this Pixel tablet’s optimized Android, as well as usage like memory.
Google’s Pixel tablet is priced at 499 dollars,
Needless to say, even at that price including docking station which of course gives it greater versatility of use. In short: it is important that Google also bets on the segment of tablets with its own model, which we can consider middle class, and that more than sales it should look for a new way to compete with its partners Apple and its iPads in better conditions.
