YouTube is testing a feature that blocks access using ad blockers

Measure breeds criticism

While understandable, the measure has drawn criticism from users who complain about the exponential growth in the number of ads placed on the platform in recent years. The YouTube Premium subscription option, which lets you access ad-free content, costs BRL 20.90 per month, which may not be affordable for users who watch videos more casually.

YouTube’s test is not unprecedented: other social networks have taken similar steps to ensure that the use of ad blockers does not affect their ad revenue. It remains to be seen if this measure will be finalized or if YouTube will look for other solutions to address this issue.
