US Army units will receive a new generation of precision Strike Missile (PrSM) missiles in fiscal 2027, and in 2023 the military will receive a basic version of the PrSM. An upgraded missile will be able to hit a moving target. This was reported by Breaking Defense with reference to the army’s budget documents.
It is stated that the new generation PrSM can hit mobile ground and surface targets. The PrSM range will also be increased.
The first two Lockheed Martin missiles will be delivered to the military in July 2023, with a decision to go into mass production in 2025. The US military can purchase a total of 3,986 missiles. The publication states that the first copy of the missile passed six flight tests.
Promising missile is designed to replace the tactical missile system MGM-140 ATACAMS (Army Tactical Missile System) with a range of up to 300 kilometers. Initially, the range of the PrSM was limited under the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium-Range and Short-Range Missiles (DRSMD), but after the United States withdrew from the treaty, the missile’s range exceeds 499 kilometers.
