Russian response to Freightliner: a unique Ural tractor is sold in Russia
In 2005, the Ural Automobile Plant presented at the Moscow Motor Show model 6464, a main tractor with hood built by the Izhevsk studio I-Design. But it did not come to the serial implementation of this idea: in Miass they made only a few cars for a single customer from Samara, and the first exhibition copy “lived” in the factory for many years.

And, as Sergey Orlov, a veteran of the enterprise, writes, now the truck exhibited at the Moscow Motor Show has been decommissioned. However, the “rejected” car was bought by a new owner who plans to resell the “Russian answer to the Freightliner” to every connoisseur of automotive history. The newly minted owner of the “nosed” rarity is ready to name the price only to a potential buyer.

We add that under the huge fiberglass hood of this tractor there is a Yaroslavl 400 hp “eight”, with which the 9-speed “mechanics” of YaMZ is aggregated. The rear axles are Chinese brands, FAW brands, with final drives and differential locks. Suspension front and rear – spring.

In the mid-2000s, Ural assumed that such “trunks” of the 6464 series could be offered to carriers at a price of about $40,000. But then second-hand “Americans” were actively imported from abroad, which cost about the same. The ambitious project was therefore initially doomed to failure.

And continue the theme of the comtrans. Last year KamAZ introduced a new medium-duty cabover called Compass, which turned out to be in fact a slightly refurbished truck from the Chinese brand JAC. Now the novelty is mastered on the assembly line of the Russian car giant, and interesting prospects are waiting for it to turn into … a bus.
