The Russian authorities are preparing a sharp increase in the price of all new cars

The passenger car must finally become a luxury! Otherwise it is difficult to understand how the government feels about increasing the recycling fee for cars. The AvtoVzglyad portal analyzes the possible consequences of such a step.

Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce Denis Manturov told the public in one of his recent interviews with his characteristic cheerfulness that the Russian government is seriously considering the idea of increasing the amount of scrap of cars imported and produced in Russia . A scrap fee was once introduced to protect the domestic car manufacturer from import competitors and to encourage foreign companies to build their plants on Russian territory. If you are a car dealer and bring to Russia a batch of cars less than three years old, then the salvage fees for you for each of these cars will be: 178,400 rubles for a car with a 1.0-2.0 liter engine, 281,600 rubles for a 2-3 etc. And if you import older vehicles, then even more.

But for a private individual who imports a car, the recycling fee is only 3,400 rubles for a new car, and 5,200 rubles if the car is older than three years. That is why the importation of cars by car dealers has gained such popularity by registering the importation with a private individual.

And now the authorities want to increase the collection. The question immediately arises: who are we going to protect and stimulate in this way?! Or protect the only remaining passenger car manufacturer in Russia, the brave AVTOVAZ, from some dumping competitors?

This is obviously a strong move. But pointless. Since our main car factory in the country only has Chinese competitors. With which the Russian automaker is not a rival of the word at all.

I’ll give you an example. The Chinese Jetta VA3 (analogous to the VW Polo) has a retail price of 600,000 rubles. AVTOVAZ, according to insiders loyal to the Russian manufacturer, Togliatti will not be able to deliver its latest LADA Vesta NG to dealers for less than 1.2 million rubles. This means that the cost of a Russian car is almost twice that of a Chinese one. Sometimes higher than our national average salary in China. Miracle. Which means we are unable to create a truly competitive product. So let’s protect him?

But he is already protected by the most nowhere – protective import duties. The same Jetta VA3 almost doubled in price after Russian clearance! Or maybe an increase in salvage costs will force Chinese automakers to set up some of their plants in Russia? It’s unlikely. Times don’t help, even protective customs duties. So why is the government going to increase garbage collection, since it will not change anything – it will only increase the already wild prices for cars in Russia?!

It would seem that this imperious “thought” has nothing to do with caring for the domestic auto industry.

It is known that now about 65,000-70,000 new and used cars are imported into Russia every month. Assuming that all of them are equipped with engines with a capacity of less than two liters, most of them “drip” almost 180,000 rubles into the treasury in the form of a recycling fee. This assumption is close to the truth, since the customs authorities in every possible way stifle the massive imports of foreign cars “for private persons”. Applying simple arithmetic, we come to the conclusion that garbage collection brings the treasury about 11 billion rubles a month. This is about 140 billion per year.

That in the current times the declining oil revenues of the state budget must have seemed very small to someone in the government. And here it is – an ingenious solution: increasing the size of waste collection. Still, people will buy cars, they’re not going anywhere. Look how recently the total amount of car loans by Russians has grown: cars have become expensive – people have to buy them on credit much more often! Well, when they increase the usage fee, which increases the selling price of cars, the volume of car loans will grow even more. But nothing, our people are patient. It is much more promising in exploitation than any oilfield…
