This week, BDY reported that the Yangwang U8, the electric SUV that caught the attention of car enthusiasts during the latest Shanghai Auto Show, will arrive in Brazil. Even confirming the launch of the car in the Brazilian market, the manufacturer did not give a date for its arrival in stores.

The Yangwang U8 is an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) that uses a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine as a power generator without direct wheel drive. The 49.05 kWh battery provides a Chinese Light Driving Cycle (CLTC) range of 180 km. With a full 75-litre fuel tank and a fully charged battery, the total range is up to 1,000 km.

The car battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 5 minutes. In addition, the U8 model has a wide range of 38 sensors, including 3 lidars, 5 megawatt radars, 14 ultrasonic radars and 16 cameras.

The car even has built-in satellite communications, allowing the driver to stay in touch with the outside world even in more isolated regions, such as mountains or deserts, where there is no cellular coverage. In addition, there is an option to enable a docking station for drones.

The U8 is built on a spar frame and includes a powerplant specially designed for cross-country driving. The car has four electric motors (two for each axle), each with a capacity of 220-240 kW and a torque of 320-420 Nm, which corresponds to a power equivalent to 1200 horsepower and 103.5 kgf of torque.

Luxury and the ability to float on water

While it has just as many virtues as an electric car, another notable feature of the U8 is the IP68 certification, which makes the SUV waterproof and swimmable, as demonstrated by BYD during the presentation. The car also has a hydraulic adaptive suspension system called DiSus-X.

The interior of the Yangwang U8 is full of sophistication, dominated by leather trim. Its center console is equipped with three monitors. First, it’s a 23.6-inch dashboard. The same screen size is available for the front passenger. As for the main screen, it has a diameter of 12.8 inches. In addition, there are two other 12.8-inch screens dedicated to second-row passengers on the Yangwang U8.
