Auto Substitutions Today: How Road Crooks “Work” in the New Circumstances

Especially in the nineties of the last century, the so-called car substitutions gained popularity in our country. And often ordinary car owners who fell for the bait of bandits were left without cars, apartments and honestly hard-earned money. And although the state has practically eradicated this form of fraud, the streets are still not free of lovers of easy money.

The classic scam scenario looks like this: an accident is modified, with you looking like the perpetrator. To do this, scammers deliberately fill the car with damaged parts, invite fake experts and quickly contact insurance companies to double the amount of payments. And this is how it looks in practice.

Relatively recently, a resonant accident happened in Vladivostok. The Toyota driver first missed the Jeep Wrangler, which exited the secondary road at the roundabout, then accelerated at lightning speed and collided. The “mate” Toyota was recognized as injured because she was driving on the through road.

However, during the investigation, it turned out that the accident was specifically provoked to receive payments from the insurance company, and the Toyota Prius in question repeatedly found itself in such situations. In addition, the driver has always been presented as a victim demanding compensation from insurance companies.

Thanks to the observation of the owner of the Jeep Wrangler and the skillful actions of the insurance company’s experts, the attackers failed to do their dirty work. Therefore, in order not to fall into the hands of car substitutes, do not fall for provocations and contact the traffic police in such situations and do not remain silent if there is even the slightest suspicion of fraudulent activity.
