Death on the road: why the number of deaths in road accidents has increased sharply in Russia

However, it was not without a struggle: the quality of the roads is improving, but the death rate is also rising.

In general, the situation in the country is improving, but at the same time the numbers in several regions increased sharply: Altai + 32%, Mari El + 25%, Ulyanovsk region + 36%, Karachay-Cherkessia + 56%. As in previous years, 9 out of 10 traffic accidents occur as a result of traffic violations by motorists. Guess who creates the remaining 10%? That’s right, pedestrian.

Despite a significant preponderance in favor of drivers of high-risk vehicles, the recorded 10 percent “pedestrian” is a breakthrough, if not a revolution, in the automotive life of a single Russian Federation. Previously, all pedestrian accidents were treated by default in favor of the latter, the driver was always at fault. Always. Just because he was driving. But the situation began to change, and quite dramatically.

The main and fundamental reason for numerous collisions, which are always described as “arrival” even in the traffic regulations, although in three out of four cases they are “finds”, is the actual absence of punitive means – unlike drivers, the camera does not stop pedestrians. In total, more than 3,000 offenders have been identified since the beginning of the year and the number of “accidents” in the places where cameras are installed has decreased by 90%. Yes, yes, identification by faces, and after that – delivery of the decision.

So far, this has only been possible with the involvement of employees who receive a photo of both the violation and the offender on their tablet during their shift, find the latter in the crowd and hand over a fine. But soon the “Sphere” – a facial recognition system that works by analogy with the “Web”, which is used for license plates – will learn and gain knowledge. And fines go directly to the drivers: in the mailbox.

With cameras you can already record the transition to a red traffic light and the level crossing in the wrong place. The system not only registers the violation, but can also determine the identity of the offender, after which a protocol is drawn up based on the video material to bring him under administrative responsibility. Soon the pedestrian will begin to think again: is it worth breaking? There is no doubt that the situation on the roads will immediately change for the better at this time. How much waiting? Yes, not much longer, the equipment is already available, it’s up to lawyers and legislators.
