Petersburg Legislative Assembly Deputy Pavel Krupnik wrote a letter to the head of the Russian traffic police, General Mikhail Chernikov, proposing to pay attention to the problem of old drivers.
According to him, the situation on domestic roads is now difficult and nervous, and transportation is moving quickly. Under such circumstances, an elderly person can get sick at any time behind the wheel. That endangers both himself and those around him.
In this regard, Krupnik Chernikov proposes to strengthen control over the health of elderly “steersmen”. The deputy considered the driver’s reaching age 75 a dangerous age limit. After that, according to the deputy, the period of validity of the old driving license can be reduced from the standard 10 to 5 years. In addition, drivers over the age of 75 must be tested for reaction speed and resistance to stress when passing a medical examination “for the law”. And don’t let them drive if these checks fail. Nothing is yet known about the attitude of the traffic police towards the initiative of the deputy.
