— The Government of the Russian Federation has decided to gradually return the requirements of the technical regulation “On the safety of wheeled vehicles” and extend the validity of Decree No. 855 “On the approval of the application of mandatory requirements for certain wheeled vehicles and the assessment of their compliance” dated 12.05.2022, taking into account the new requirements until February 1, 2024, reports the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
For individual car owners, this means that until February next year, when they import a car into Russia for their own needs, they will not have to equip it with an “SOS button” based on ERA-GLONASS. That is, in this sense, everything remains the same. Except for one thing: it is now forbidden to import cars of an environmental class below Euro-2 into Russia. The government also decided to ban the production of cars in the country without an anti-lock braking system from December 1, 2023.
Recall that the decision to simplify the technical regulations, allowing cars to be registered and imported into the country according to the shortened version, was made on May 16, 2022. Thus, it gained the ability to produce and import vehicles into the country without airbags, ABS, ERA-GLONASS module, exhaust catalytic converters and other car parts that were no longer available due to anti-Russian sanctions.
