Why fresh asphalt is dangerous for a car and how to deal with it
The asphalt replacement season in cities and towns of Russia lasts from May to September. And where these works take place, car owners “enjoy” a whole series of unpleasant moments, sometimes unexpectedly having an accident.

When it comes to the problems that threaten a car when driving on fresh asphalt, everyone usually remembers bitumen droplets that can stick to the body. This “terrible” problem is actually easily solved. Understanding that you may be on fresh asphalt, rub the polishing paste on the lower part of the body – especially those places where bitumen usually gets on it. And don’t store these auto chemicals! A thick layer of polish gives bitumen no chance to adhere to the paint. Then there is no need to organize “dances with a tambourine” to wipe it off.

However, the bitumen on the body is rubbish! Few motorists are aware that on brand new black asphalt you should not exaggerate with speed during periods of midday heat. After all, under the wheels you have crushed stone mixed with bitumen. And the latter contains a lot of relatively light (relative to this oil product) fractions, which, warming up in the sun, tend to liquefy.

“Young” asphalt is not gray, but intense black, which contributes to better absorption of solar energy and additional heating. In this regard, on a fresh surface, the car has an increased probability of “slipping”. A ride with a breeze in a completely harmless corner can end in a ditch.

It is also curious that even in rainy weather exactly the same thing can happen to a car. But there is another factor at play here. Water, penetrating into the micro-roughness of the new asphalt, washes out the semi-liquid fractions of the same bitumen. They create a kind of oil film on the road surface, which can play a cruel trick on the car and break the adhesion of the tires to the road surface. Note that this “oil” is washed out of the asphalt pavement after several heavy rains. And among the first in the “life” of asphalt with rain, it is better not to scorch it.

Well, and one more unpleasant factor that should be remembered when driving on fresh asphalt. Human. After all, after the last rink has passed along the road, there are no marking lines on it for some time. Which prompts many drivers to go anyway. It looks especially “nice” in the regions of Russia, where motorists often, even with markings, do not pay much attention to it. When it is completely absent, such citizens perceive this circumstance in the form of permission to move arbitrarily between the actual lanes, go to the “oncoming traffic” and perform other “tricks”, creating emergency situations at every step.

If you find yourself in such conditions, caused by the asphalt replacement, be extremely vigilant and follow all “riders” all around – 360º around you. In addition, in the absence of markings, it will be very difficult for you to prove your innocence in a possible accident.
