All “vents” are divided into the so-called dry and those with impregnation. The former are usually white in color and for the price they are the cheapest. This is understandable. Paper in such products is not processed in any way. That is, the fibers can only retain large contaminants, and small particles freely penetrate the intake system and enter the engine.
Over time, this leads to interruptions in the operation of the mass air flow meter and wear to the surface of the cylinders. And the engine itself is not getting enough oxygen. As a result, fuel consumption increases and dynamics deteriorates. This is another proof that even simple consumables should not be stored.
Impregnation is exactly what is needed to absorb the smallest fractions of the abrasive. The color of such a composition can be yellow, beige, red, black and so on. It consists of special resins, the consistency of which resembles hydraulic oil.
Processing allows the use of more technological paper. These are filters of “zero” resistance. Usually they are round in shape and are installed directly on the inlet, and not in a plastic box. As the name implies, these do not “choke” the power source, which is important for powerful machines. But there is also a downside. Dirt through it flies quite happily into the engine. To prevent this, the “vent” is treated with a colored special compound, which can improve filtration with little or no loss of throughput.
Now impregnations are widely used on ordinary spare parts. If their color is other than white, the paper has been processed. And the “color” depends on the dye used by the manufacturer. There is no difference between them.
By the way, over time, the composition develops, and the surface of the “air gap” is clogged with fine dust, which cannot be cleaned. If you see this, it is advisable to replace the consumable, since the cleanliness of the engine is the key to long operation without breakdowns.
