At the SPIEF-2023 in St. Petersburg, the head of AVTOVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, spoke about the company’s plans to replace LADA Granta with a new model in the brand’s lineup.
– The new car family that will replace Granta will be called Iskra. This decision has already been approved by the board, and under this brand a whole family of our new cars will be sold in three variants: a sedan, a station wagon and probably a station wagon, – said Mr. Sokolov.
According to him, the car will be based on the CMF-B platform, inherited by AvtoVAZ after the Renault-Nissan alliance left Russia. On its basis, Dacia Logan and Sandero are now produced at the Romanian Renault plant. Before the French left the domestic market, it was assumed that the renewal of the AvtoVAZ line, originally planned for 2022, would take place based on this particular platform.
Sokolov also said that the production of the Togliatti manufacturer LADA Iskra should start at the end of 2024 and the model will start sales in 2025. Now it is impossible to do this, since the enterprise is currently unable to replace the car parts from foreign suppliers used in CMF-B.
The exterior of the Iskra will resemble the design of LADA Vesta. Granta’s release is scheduled for 2027.
