The Russian State Traffic Inspectorate has counted the number of road accidents in January-May 2023 involving drunk drivers. And she explained the continuation of a sharp decline in such incidents.
– From January to May 2023, 2,887 traffic accidents involving drunk drivers were recorded on Russian roads. This is 23.4% less than for the same period in 2022.
In total, traffic police officers registered 3,690 accidents involving drivers who showed signs of drunkenness in the first five months of this year (21.2% less than a year earlier). 809 of these citizens refused to undergo a medical examination. A total of 695 people were killed and 5,091 injured in accidents involving drivers with “marks”. This is less than in the same period last year by 40 and 18.8 percent respectively.
Recall that in recent years, the traffic police reported about the same number of drunk driving protocols per year – about 470,000 pieces. Most likely, this figure will be around the same level by the end of 2023. Therefore, a sharp decrease in the number of “accidents under the influence” in our country can only be explained by an increase in the level of driving skills of those who like to drive drunk.
