The new Volvo EX30 takes urban safety to a new level.
The new Volvo EX30, the brand’s smallest SUV ever, embodies Volvo’s leadership in safety and innovation for more than 96 years, meeting the challenges of today’s bustling urban environments. For example, on busy urban roads, a car door accidentally opened in the path of a cyclist is the cause of a significant number of bicycle accidents. So-called door crashes account for up to a fifth of all reported bike accidents in some cities, and according to Cycling UK alone, an average of 60 people are killed or seriously injured each year by car doors, according to Cycling UK.
To help reduce these incidents, the Volvo EX30 is equipped with an open door warning system that warns you visually and audibly whenever you are about to open the door in front of a passing cyclist or other road user.
Open door warning is one of several features of our Safe Space technology in the Volvo EX30, showing how the brand has applied its high safety standards to a new all-electric SUV designed to keep the city safe with technologies specifically designed to protect people. in crowded urban environments.
“For a long time, we have focused on safety in urban environments, where cars share space with pedestrians and cyclists,” says Osa Haglund, head of our Safety Center. “With the Volvo EX30, we are taking urban safety to the next level by creating an SUV that is your ideal partner for comfortable driving, taking care of yourself and others on the busy streets of modern cities.”
As an SUV from Volvo Cars, the new EX30 is as safe as any other Volvo car and has the brand’s unique knowledge of safety and real-life crash investigation. The EX30 is designed to protect the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. It does this with restraint technology as well as top-notch structural design that meets ambitious internal safety requirements and is designed to prepare vehicles for a variety of real-world scenarios.
Protecting the people inside the car in the event of an accident has always been a priority for us. The design of the EX30 reflects our commitment to strengthening the roll cage, the A-, B- and B-pillars, and the roof.
Since this is an electric car, Volvo naturally pays special attention to the integrity of the battery. The chassis and roll cage are made from various forms of high-strength steel, which effectively absorb the impact of a possible collision.
The EX30 also includes a side airbag inside the driver’s seat designed to reduce head and chest injuries in the event of a side impact. And it goes beyond your basic passive safety standards. The Volvo EX30 also offers an enhanced set of new active safety features that help protect people inside and outside the vehicle.
Inside the EX30, a new advanced driver alert system comes as standard to take care of you when you’re not at your best. In addition to practical sensors on the steering wheel, the car also has a special sensor that works with powerful algorithms and is located behind the wheel, which detects eye and facial movements approximately 13 times per second. Thus, the EX30 can try to figure out if you are distracted, drowsy, or inattentive.
Our new auto-brake feature is designed to prevent accidents at urban intersections. In the event that another vehicle unexpectedly crosses your path, the automatic braking function is designed to stop the vehicle and help mitigate or avoid a collision.
In short, like any other Volvo car, the new EX30 is equipped with an excellent array of active safety and driver assistance systems.
We’ll be sharing more details on all the driver support and safety technologies inside the EX30 in a live presentation. So stay tuned for the world premiere of the new all-electric Volvo EX30 SUV on June 7th.
