Bill Gates, co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft, has become a prominent figure in humanitarian and global health issues since leaving the company. He and his ex-wife Melinda created the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest philanthropic foundation that funds projects in areas such as health, education, development and the environment.

One of the foundation’s main activities is the eradication of infectious diseases in poorer countries through vaccination. The Foundation has donated billions of dollars to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and led the immunization campaign as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Recognizing that poor sanitation is the cause of many diseases in these countries, Gates also launched the Reinventing the Toilet competition to develop affordable decentralized sanitation solutions. This culminated in the Omni Processor, a system that converts human waste into electricity, drinking water and construction sand.

In addition to his founding, Gates has also invested in clean energy and nuclear medicine through his company TerraPower, which develops advanced nuclear reactor designs. TerraPower is working on a project to increase the stockpile of the medical isotope actinium-225, which is showing promising results in cancer treatment.

Gates has also been involved in non-fiction and advocacy, writing books on climate change, and preparing for future pandemics. However, her personal life and activities are not without controversy, including a recent divorce and ties to controversial figures.
