Yamaha has announced that it plans to stop manufacturing and selling snowmobiles. The process of exiting world markets will be phased. So from now on, not a single new model will come to the Japanese market. The 2024 snowmobile series, currently in development, should be available in the fall of 2023. Europe will lose the snowmobile brand in 2024. In a year, the same will happen in the North American market. Existing stocks of snowmobiles will gradually sell out.
The Japanese promise to “ensure parts availability, service and related customer satisfaction both now and after the permanent cessation of snowmobile production.” Yamaha officials say the company’s consolidated operating results will be minimally impacted by the exit from the snowmobile market.
Reportedly, there is no plan to replace the snowmobile business in the manufacturer’s portfolio. Yamaha wants to spend the resources freed up by the discontinuation of snowballs “on current business activities and new growth markets”.
