This has never happened before: the Russian car market has bottomed

According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), Russian car dealers sold 32,706 new cars and light commercial vehicles in April. As the AvtoVzglyad portal calculated, the decline was a record 78.5%.

Before that, it seemed that the worst for the Russian car retail trade was April of the “COVID” 2020. But no: even then our compatriots managed to buy almost twice as many new cars as they do now. While car dealerships across the country were closed…

You may also recall 1999 when, after the ruble depreciated a year earlier, many Russians lost their savings. And yet they bought about 80,000 brand new cars every month. True, domestic brands, which 20 years ago accounted for 95% of the market.

It’s no use making predictions for the foreseeable future now… But it’s clear that dealers are in for “dark” times. For many, they can become a complete meltdown when, albeit small, stocks of cars run out completely.

Meanwhile, we note that the most popular models are LADA Granta, LADA Vesta and LADA Niva. The best-selling brand is therefore LADA. And, of course, this picture of consumer demand will continue in the coming months. Or maybe even years…

But the fate of the ‘related’ brand Renault is developing quite bleak: we will apparently have to forget Logan, Sandero and Duster for a long time. The “period of oblivion” has already been designated by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: five or six years.

But what will the brand’s factories in Russia be producing at that time? The AvtoVzglyad portal tells about one of the very interesting options.
