During the test drive, which took place on the territory of the Moscow Center for Technical Sports, the Zontes motorcycle site was not empty. No, there wasn’t much excitement, but the test track was always busy with motorcycles moving and the instructors were talking almost non-stop about the Zontes technique of a new batch of registered test participants, who had hitherto suffered from “feel-steer” unfamiliar two-wheeled products.

But in general, everything went according to the classical scheme: registration, briefing, communication with a technical specialist on the topics “how much he eats, how much he rushes”, etc. Then – a go-kart track with the most butchered straight lines, so that no one even but would think about stoking “moped” to maximum speed. And rightly so: safety comes first.

Zontes’ technical advisors in particular were distinguished. The guys thoroughly studied the material of the novelty of the Russian motorcycle market and skillfully answered all questions about the presented motorcycles. And there were more than enough questions.

But here’s what’s surprising: if about 10 years ago all the talk about “Moto-Chinese” of various calibers began with a stereotypical phrase: “Yes, this is a copy of Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki – to choose from ) only five times cheaper, well, the quality is appropriate”, then now another calico. No, no one stopped copying analogues in the Middle Kingdom, it’s just that cloning itself has evolved for the better, both in quality and in essence.

Yes, in the Zontes models even now one can distinguish the roots of the “senior Japanese comrades”, but there are also purely original technical solutions of their own. Also in the design of the exterior is a line with very high-quality detailing. And if today for most motorcycle enthusiasts the name Zontes is just a series of letters, then there is no doubt that everyone will soon learn to understand them.

When asked by the AvtoVzglyad portal what niche the Chinese are striving for, the brand manager of the Zontes Russia representative office answered without batting an eyelid: “Zontes is expensive China.” Well, outwardly Zontes motorcycles look really rich. But will they be able to gain a foothold and gain a foothold in the free market base of not very cheap equipment? The question is open.
