The Committee of Automobile Manufacturers of the Association of European Companies in Russia (AEB) has released the data on sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the first half of the year and at the same time the annual forecast. Thus, according to analysts, the market will continue to grow and reach a volume of 1 million units by the end of 2023.
— We base our forecast of the Russian market size for 2023 on a number of factors. In particular, we take into account the plans of local car manufacturers and also expect new players to enter the domestic car market. Car deliveries to Russia via parallel imports, as well as other alternative arrangements, will continue to play an important role. Although this import channel will lose its relevance due to exchange rate volatility,” said Aleksey Kalitsev, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
The AEB also reported that the Russian market for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 88.3% in June 2023 compared to June 2022 (with 24,518 units) and reached the level of 52,279 vehicles.
In addition, AEB has announced that its reports will from now on not only include data from car suppliers in our market, but also information from PPC JSC, known in the market as Electronic Passport JSC. Thus, both data on the sale of new cars and on their registration with the traffic police are published.
