The National Automobile Distribution Federation (Fenebrave) published last Tuesday (4) a list of the ten best-selling cars in Brazil in the first half of this year. The Fiat Strada continues to dominate the Brazilian car market, remaining the country’s best-selling new car during this period.
The pickup, which has topped registrations since 2021, sold 50,546 units during that period. Vice-leadership was held by the Chevrolet Onix, which partially rebounded in 2023 with 44,110 units sold. The model was followed by the Volkswagen Polo and Onix Plus, which sold 37,722 and 35,726 units, respectively.
New car sales in Brazil rose 7.39% in June, with 189,528 new units licensed in the country. In the first semester, there were 998,270 registrations, which is almost 9% more than in the same period of the previous year.

This growth was driven by the Zero Car Cost Reduction Program, an initiative by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva that provided automakers with R$1.8 billion worth of incentives to give discounts on new cars.
According to Andreta Jr., president of Fenabrave, the number of sales in June could have been even higher were it not for logistical problems and delays in billing for new cars. Fenabrave is exploring alternatives to continuing the stimulus program to mitigate the loss of consumer purchasing power without burdening fiscal policy.
