It is easy to see that the guys from the Celestial Empire quickly mastered all segments of the Russian market without exception. They haven’t actually become frame trucks either. Moreover, the Chinese drag pick-ups to us not for sales, but for image. As they say, the bag does not pull the stock – better let it be than not. So, what do the Asians offer our brother in the segment of heavy all-wheel drive “bezorozhnikov”?
For the life of me, the Chinese love the letters PRO in their model names. JAC’s new T8 pick-up truck was no different either. The car has air conditioning, cruise control, multimedia with a 10.4-inch touchscreen, all-round cameras and a 7-inch instrument panel.
The “all-terrain vehicle” is set in motion – to choose from – by a frankly slow 2-liter diesel engine of about 139 “ponies”, or a more productive turbocharged “gasoline” with a capacity of 211 “stallions”. But the transmission, alas, is only mechanical – six steps. As invented by the representatives of the brand, for the omnivorous Russian person – “PROkatit”.
In order not to cross the name with the terrible, but not great UAZ Hunter, the Chinese decided not only to add the Plus prefix to the model name, but also called the SUV a “business class pickup”.
That’s just nothing corporate and premiums, as you probably already understood, no. If you do not take into account the “luxury eco-leather”, air conditioning and a minimal set of auxiliary electronics. But there’s a 12.3-inch multimedia touchpad and a built-in DVR. And under the hood, a gasoline turbo engine was registered, which “blows out” an impressive 233 liters from a couple of liters of volume. Of. Linked to it is a “rapid-fire” eight-speed “automatic” from ZF.
Probably, this almost six-meter-long representative of the pickup family wants to surprise the Russians with the smallest 10.2-inch multimedia screen in the segment and a real rear-view camera. It’s good that at least there is air conditioning and rain sensors. However, for the most demanding, there is still climate control and even a heated steering wheel covered in leather.
But on power units – either in Haval or in Great Wall – they were stingy again, offering consumers a weak “diesel” of about 150 “horses” and a slightly more agile gasoline engine with 190 forces. The transmission of the “King Kong” is also “budget” – “mechanics”, six speeds.
In short: take what they give. Again, everything is better than UAZ.
